Age: 18 Home Town: San Diego, California, USA Home YC: SDYC Boat: 29er and more Position: Driver Top 5 Finishes: 3rd 06' 29er Worlds, 12th 05' 29er Worlds, 7th 06' UK Nats, 1st 04' US 29er Nats, 3rd 05' Gorge Games Last wipeout experience: Wasnt that bad, Noble and I went sailing with our brand new boat and brand new sails in 30-35 knots in Santa Barbara. We were jumping swells upwind and when we landed, we could hear loud creaks and cracks up near the bow. Laughing hysterically as the coast guard tried to chase after us and get us into the harbor, we made it up under the point and set our new, crispy black kite. Blasted downwind in total survival mode with no foot strap, which was incredibly difficult keeping Matts foot under my butt. We went for a gibe but stuffed it into a wave and pitch-polled very quick. We didnt want to piss off the harbor patrol too much so we decided to head in, calling it a successful first day in our boat. We went in and de-rigged, and finally turned our mainsheet block the right way to ratchet. Last time you won: I dont even remember, probably the race in England at worlds that we won, its been a while haha Coolest place you have been: either Silvaplana, Switzerland, or the Gorge in Oregon, you dont count as a sailor in North America until you have raced there. If you could sail one boat for the rest of my life it would be: a modified racing cat or trimaran set up to live on and tour the ocean in search of waves. iPod: reggae, rock, rap, in that order. As long as its good. Interests: Surfing flexible surfboards on large hollow waves, careening down steep hills on skateboards, spearfishing and skindiving when the water is warm, my blonde girl. Thanks yous: Full Plane, my parents, SDYC, all my coaches in the past and present, and EVERYONE who thought I was wasting my time sailing a faster boat. Anything else: enjoy the ocean and its magic |
